SYNOPSIS & TREATMENT

Confident in Reynard’s ability in the courtroom, Hunter insists on Reynard representing him. Despite his relative inexperience with murder trials, Reynard accepts the case. What better place for Reynard to be, than responsible for Hunter’s fate and therefore his own?

The scene is therefore set for a dramatic show down. What the world sees is an innocent man defending a guilty one, but the audience know differently.

With so much at stake, Reynard needs a guilty verdict for his client but needs to be seen to be doing a good job. How can he credibly sabotage his own case? The strain of the trial and of the murder itself begin to take their toll on Reynard, both professionally and privately.

Taking less care to hide his double life, Reynard is caught in bed with another woman. Emotionally distraught and feeling betrayed, Sarah seeks the comfort of her sister Emily and her brother-in-law Peter. Emily reacts oddly to Sarah’s predicament and after Sarah has left, admits in a fraught argument with Peter that Reynard is the father of ‘their’ child Max.

Reynard, Sarah, Peter and Emily have for years been a close-nit group. Emily, however, has not taken the strains of motherhood well. An increasing neurosis and inability to cope has left her teetering on the edge.

Sarah’s constant support has meant everything to Emily. The secret Emily has been living with has only made matters worse. So when Peter decides that Sarah should know the truth about Reynard and Emily, it is not only Sarah’s world that collapses. How will Emily live with the guilt of betraying Sarah?
