TREATMENT

It was at table 14 that John Belushi ordered lentil soup before checking into the Marmont and overdosing. Booth 23 was where Joe Di Maggio took Marilyn Monroe on their first date and Mickey Rooney gate-crashed as they weren’t talking to one another. The bar outback was where Sinatra, Martin and Davis Junior met when in Hollywood. It was the central meeting place for every English rocker who ever visited the West Coast before they banned smoking.

It is the Rainbow Bar, Restaurant and Grill on Sunset Strip, Los Angeles and for the first time it is allowing camera’s behind the scenes to tell it’s story. The stories of the Rainbow, all star studded ones, span almost one hundred years.

In the years of prohibition it was a speak-easy; silent movie stars used to escape using the 'back-stair' during police raids. The stairs are still there today. It was in the same area that legendary British bans of the sixties took 'surfer chicks' to snort coke and have sex. The booth where Monroe and Di Maggio sat, was then adopted by John 'Thunderfingers' Entwhistle (The Who) became a permanent fixture as you entered the restaurant. There are many stories to be told and 'The Rainbow' documentary will chronicle the best of them for the first time.

It is not only the famous patrons of the rainbow that have stories to tell, the staff, also have their own stories. The busboys have been there for many years valeting the cars of the patrons. The chef’s have cooked the same “rock’n roll” menu for many years (lentil soup is no longer served as a mark of respect to Belushi and you have to ask for Jerry’s Chicken).
