Cookery, Music and History all rolled into one!!
An "investigation" by ‘The Black Sex Diva’ Sheila Ferguson, author of the cookbook ‘Soul Food’ and musician (singer of legendary pop group, Three Degrees) into the Underground Railroad, as she rediscovers her roots through celebrating the music and food that came out of the struggle, while exploring the history.
If you are unfamiliar with the term, Underground Railroad, it is the ´route´ many African American slaves followed in order to escape their masters and seek freedom in Northern United States and Canada. It was neither underground nor a railroad, however, it was done secretively and some of those who did not believe in slavery opened their homes

(called ´Stations´) to feed and clothe the slaves while on their journey. They were called ´Conductors´.
The food and music of that era still exist today and are a result of the specific socio-historical conditions of slaves in America.
This series will follow Sheila on one of the Underground’s routes, visiting the many ´Stations´, telling stories, providing historical background and cooking traditional Soul Food with ´Special Guests´. To provide more entertainment to the format, she will also perform songs, in which the lyrics developed from that period. These songs reflect their struggle, but were also used, in some cases, as code to pass on messages to fellow slaves during their journeys with directions or with warnings.
